Linkin Park on Waiting For The End success
Tuesday, February 8, 2011
Mike and Chester discussed the success of "Waiting For The End" with MTV yesterday
"I think we've ... maybe a switch went off in my head when Hybrid Theory went diamond [for certified sales of more than 10 million copies]. It's like, 'Nobody's going to have a diamond record [again], so why try?' " he continued. "We want to be happy — of course, we want the band to be successful — but, you know, at the same time, we do want to push the envelope and do things that are creatively challenging."

Metromix talked to Mike and Chester about their dark new album and high-tech tour.
What drew you to explore the dark and heavy themes on “A Thousand Suns?” Mike Shinoda: It turned out that all six of the guys felt like there was a universal fear that I think a lot of people these days do have: that fear, whether it be in the front of their mind or in the back of their mind, that humanity as a whole is and has been for a long time on the brink of destroying itself. Whether that be slowly or quickly, it’s just that a possibility exists in the world, and I think we’re all scared of it to some degree. So that’s kind of how we decided that…it was proper for it to be a part of the record.

Linkin Park rocks out Down Under: interview with Mike and Chester
MTV Australia caught up with Mike and Chester after the Australian tour and got them talk about the touring experiences and interesting collaborations.
MTV: You’ve just finished touring here Down Under – how did it go?
Chester: For me personally, the first couple of shows on this tour were pretty rough. I felt very kind of disconnected and just off, I wasn’t feeling very well and I almost was compelled to send out like a public apology or some kind of Twitter. But then I was like, no, I don’t want to do that coz it’s part of what we do.
Mike: (Laughs) Chester’s version of bad, when you do what we do, we’re kind of perfectionists, and what’s acceptable to us is a very narrow margin. Our shows here have been a tonne of fun, and touring down here feels like you’re on vacation the whole time, its so warm and pleasant, the people are great, we always have a good time each time we come, which is why we keep coming back!
Linkin Park Drop the Bomb, Revel in the Aftermath of 'A Thousand Suns'
Thursday, September 30, 2010
Noisecreep has an intriguing interview with Mike and Chester about the aftermath of "A Thousand Suns"
Mike Shinoda: When we were writing 'A Thousand Suns,' we did some interviews where we called it a concept record 'cause at the time I think we were thinking that's what we might be doing.
Chester Bennington: It was a sexy idea, making a concept record. It felt challenging and we wanted to challenge ourselves, so that was appealing. And then we realized very quickly that would put a lot of our creativity into a single box and kind of work against the free flowing ideas that we had.

Mike and Chester did an interview with Czech radio station Evropa2. The interview is in Czech so we'll be very grateful if someone can tell us what they talked about here. You can listen to the radio here:

LOS ANGELES -- When Linkin Park signed on to perform at the Video Music Awards, they only had one request: They wanted it to be big.
It made sense. After all, this was going to be the first performance of "The Catalyst," the massive, sweeping debut single off their upcoming A Thousand Suns album (in stores Tuesday), and they needed an equally massive -- and sweeping -- stage from which to launch the next chapter in their career.
And though we're not allowed to say just where they'll be performing, suffice it to say, they succeeded in finding the right spot.
"We're really excited about the new music, and this being the first performance, it's a big show for us," LP's Chester Bennington told MTV News. "So we're beyond thrilled that we were able to make it happen."
"It's an epic location and it does fit the tone of the song, and there are definitely themes about this location and the song that tie together," Mike Shinoda told MTV News. " 'The Catalyst' was one of the first demos on our record that really felt like the nucleus of what the record was going to be. ... There's a complexity to the ideas in the song. I think there are layers to the lyrics; there's obviously layers to the music."
And judging from what we saw in rehearsals Saturday night (September 11), the performance is definitely going to match the scope of the song. It's big, it's loud, and it reaches unabashedly for the stars. Which is fitting, because given where the performance is taking place, Linkin Park can practically touch them.
Infer from that what you will. Or not. Because Bennington and Shinoda aren't quite ready to make the big reveal just yet.
"It's going to be really beautiful looking. This is a very unique kind of opportunity for us to play this particular location," Bennington said. "It's not really a place where normally a band would be able to come perform at."
"Personally, I can't wait to meet Shamu," Shinoda added. "Oh sh--, did I say that out loud?"
The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. The party starts with MTV News' VMA Pre-Show at 8 p.m., followed by the main event at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for Best New Artist from now through Sunday.

Chester and Brad were on Loveline Monday night for some sex talk!
Okay, they weren't exactly there for that, but they still were Monday's special guests! If you still aren't familiar with Loveline, even after the many times some band members have visited the show, it is a radio show airing on KROQ at night, in which people call in for sex/relationship advices. Juicy enough for you? They did also talk about the new album, don't worry.
Here are some of the best moments:
Chester: Cause usually when I'm on here, I'm always grossed out by the anal calls.
(some girl calls in for an advice about anal sex) Girl: I kinda like, want to, but I don't want to, like, hurt her- Chester: LOTS OF LUBE!
(about The Catalyst Mike's dick) Chester: Mike came in and played it for us and I was drawn to it immediately.
(Some girl calls in to know if it's normal that she is aroused by pain) Chester: It's like I couldn't- I couldn't imagine inflicting that kind of pain to anybody, let alone someone I love or care about. It's a horrible way to be treated. You are a human being that, you know, deserves to be treated with love and kindness and tenderness, not y'know being beaten or choked out or punched in the face or something like that.
(Host gives a blowjob technique) Chester: Excellent manoeuvre. I'm a fan!
(About performing live and not losing his voice) Chester: I think one of the thing that helps me out too is the fact that Mike is with me in the band.
(question about squirting) Chester: It's kinda like from a guy's perspective, the guy's gonna think "I'm really good, I'm a champion! Look what I've done!"
(Girl calls in and talks about how his boyfriend doesn't let her swallow) Chester: Your boyfriend says it grosses him out and he doesn't like it? He's lying. He's gay.
Chester: Shinoda just said he's listening to us from Germany right now. Hi Mike! Brad: What's he doing up at 8:40 in the morning? Chester: He's plucking his pubic hair, of course.
(Girl calls in, worried she's falling in love with her best friend) Chester: If this guy was like your best friend in high school, I would say that he's your friend because he wanted to have sex with you. But because he's been your best friend since you were like four years old, he probably looks at you more like a sister, and that's like a line that you can't cross. Cause if you get together and like, it doesn't work out, you lost your best friend forever.
(Girl having long distance relationship with her girlfriend and calls for phone sex advice) Chester: Dude, get the new iPhone, with Facetime! Cause phone sex gets boring. It's exciting the first time, maybe the second time [...] get the new iPhone and then you can facetime each other. But you've got to have a wifi connection, so don't do it at Starbucks or something like that.
I might've forgot some, just listen to it!
You can download the 1:17:18 long show, here. Thanks to KATHYxx for recording and uploading and to MSC for the link!
Loveline has uploaded two videos of our boys' passage in their studios. Here's the first one, in which you can see what kind of shenanigans happen after the show
And here's the second one, which is only an audio of them discussing the Linkin Park rapist issue. (confirmation that Mike might be that evil people snatcher, eek! Hide your wife, hide your kids, and hide your husband, guys!)
Gemma on LPTimes has transcribed the interview of Chester with Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1. Here's some parts concerning Mike
And so, another interesting thing that we did on this record is Mike - his vocals have become really strong and so on The Catalyst, you'll hear that I might not sound like myself in parts thats because of Mike's singing. And so we blended the vocals to kind of fade in and out of going from Mike to me, back to Mike and then back to me. It's a very cool thing that we've done on this record.
***
I have to take my hat off to Mike Shinoda. He really is the driving force in creatively music wise. People are always asking me what our secret is and I usually don't tell them because I don't want them to talk to Mike. I really think he is the most talented person I've ever met and I think he is probably the most talented song writer we have in the industry right now.
Some nice quotes to put into our quotes archive :)
On another note, LPAssociation posted two press articles for A Thousand Suns that Linkin Park themselves wrote. Inspiring and powerful speeches that once again prove how respectable this band is. Recommended for any Linkin Park fan fellow out there. You can read those articles HERE
Hello sweet tarts! Here's Jules' first updates, and she's got a few things for you! Let's start.
- On Monday, while Chester was on the phone with BBC radio (see this post), Mike and Brad (love me some Delnoda!) were in the KROQ studios in L.A. to deliver The Catalyst in person. They did a small interview in the hallway, in which they mostly talked about the new album. You can watch the video on KROQ's website, right here.
- Mikeshinodaclan has uploaded a radio interview with Mike from Live 105. Once again, he talks about The Catalyst, A Thousand Suns, and producer Rick Rubin. You can download the mp3 on their site.
- Linkin Park has uploaded a lyrics video for The Catalyst on their youtube channel. Obviously, this is not the official video, but if you want to sing along to the song, you definitely gotta watch it! It's a pretty cool video.
- Talking about videos, tt's been confirmed by WBMG, the official music video for Linkin Park's new single, The Catalyst, will premiere on August 26th. Mark your calendars! Thanks to LPAssociation for the info!
- LPtimes reports that Mike and Chester are on the cover of the September issue of the Japanese magazine Rockin' On. The magazine also contains an interview with the two singers. Japanese fans, this issue is on sale right now! So bring us some scans, will ya?
-Finally, we've got a couple of new promo pictures for you! The Bennoda ones will probably be added to the gallery when Ann comes back from wherever she's disappeared to ;)
Herald Sun had a great interview with Chester where he revealed about his current work and mentioned his Shinoda boy
Shinoda has helped Bennington temper any grand expectations.
"He's given me a lot of good advice," Bennington says. "Don't go out there expecting to be treated like you're Linkin Park, which I think a lot of the guys in the band may assume - 'We're gonna go out there and have another project and it's gonna be HUGE!'
"I appreciate that. Mike is one of the coolest people I've ever known. He's one of my best friends. I love him to death, he's an amazing guy, super-talented, so anything he tells me, I pretty much listen to."
Aww, we need more love confession like this. You make the world so fluffy, Sir. Fluffington, and we love you for that. Read the whole article/interview HERE

Chester's interview with Taipei Times - Taiwan
Pedal to the metal By Ron Brownlow STAFF REPORTER Wednesday, Jul 08, 2009, Page 14
Taipei Times: In the late-1990s, after listening to a demo, you quit your job and moved your family to California to join Lincoln Park. What made you do that?
Chester Bennington: A little man that lives inside my head [pauses for effect]. I’m a very emotional person, I’m a very gut kind of guy. I would say that in a lot of ways if you looked at how [Linkin Park’s other frontman] Mike Shinoda looks at things and how I look at things, we probably look at things in two different ways but we somehow come to the same conclusion. So I didn’t analyze it very much. I find that when I just go with my gut and I just go with the whisper that’s in my heart, in my head, it generally tells me the right choice to make. When I over-analyze I find myself in trouble. So when I heard the demo I was like, “I’ll go out there.” When I heard the music I knew right away that it was nothing like anything I had ever heard before. That sometimes can be really bad [laughs]. In this case it was really good, and right when I heard the music all sorts of really great melodies started popping into my head and I was like, “This is a sign. I need to go, I need to do this. I need to go out there. This is the real deal.”
And when I moved out there I did see that it was the real deal. From the very first day of practices we were already a kick-ass bad. I was like, “This is a no-brainer. This is my chance. I’m only going to get one opportunity to do this. I want to do this with my life and if I don’t take chances to make it happen then it’s not going to happen.” So I quit my job, moved out, moved to Mike Shinoda’s couch, lived in the back of my car, in a really shitty apartment that had the roof cave in on it. And while doing that pretty much made a record that changed six guys from various parts of southern California and one guy from Arizona’s life completely for the rest of their existence [laughs]. It could have very easily turned out to be nothing at the same time. It could have been a fine experience and I could tell my grandkids, “Yeah, at one time I moved out to California to try to be in this band.” It could have been one of those things too. But I knew somewhere inside, something told me, “This is the one, you need to go.”
Someone write me a young, struggling LP fic please?
This interview is pretty interesting. Tell us some anecdotes of Linkin Park when they just started out, how they rose to fame with their effort and Chester's own hard time back in 05, 06. Also, it's confirmed that Rick Rubin will be their producer for the next album. Rick is a great producer and with MTM, he surely got to know Linkin Park, so we could only hope that the boys will pull off an uber amazing album this time and don't let the fans down. Read the rest of the interview HERE for more information.
Mike and Chester had an interview with MTV about New Divide, Dead By Sunrise and their upcoming semi-conceptual album.
What they have to say about Chester's solo project:
And that "different" music starts with Bennington'sSunrise, a long-in-the-works project that the singer says will finally see the light of day in September. And in keeping with what Shinoda was saying, Bennington is warning Linkin Park fans to prepare to be shocked by what they'll hear. Oh, and to fire up their black lights too.
"There's a stylistic thing that's different. With Linkin Park, we have a signature sound — you know it when you hear us. [Dead by Sunrise] does not have that feel. It has a completely different feel. Trying to describe that difference is like trying to describe the difference between Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, you know?" he said. "They're both rock, but they're different styles. I'm confident in saying this next record is going to be the most challenging ... and complex and intriguing music that has come out of the Linkin Park camp. It's really dark. It's like post-apocalyptic 'Blade Runner' meets LSD."
"I have to say, I'm really proud of Chester — he has his own style. ... You know how they say you can turn on Pink Floyd and 'The Wizard of Oz' and they go together?" Shinoda added. "You'll want to put this record on with 'Blade Runner' and 'Tron.' "
"Or 'Blade Runner' and 'Tron' and 'A Clockwork Orange,' all at the same time," Bennington laughed.
Yet another time Mike has to voice out how much he's proud of his boy. Yes, we know Mike. We know ;)
VH1 has an interview with Mike and Chester where they talked about their newest song 'New Divide' and spilled some 'Transformer II' secrets.
When Linkin Park's Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda met with "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" director (and fan of explosions) Michael Bay, they had no idea what to expect. And, it turns out, they got more than they could've ever imagined.
Not only did they get an extremely advanced look at the film, they ended up playing a role in its very creation. Which, you know, wasn't originally in the cards.
Spin's Q&A: Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda. New affiliate.
Friday, June 5, 2009
Mike talked about Chester's solo project on SPIN! He's surely proud of his boy and is promoting Chester the best he can ;)
What else is on tap for the band? Chester's solo project, Dead by Sunrise, is going to come out later this year. He's been working on it for a few years. I think he's looking at sometime around a September release date.
Has the rest of Linkin Park contributed to it? We actually haven't. It's much more of a straight-up rock-based record. Howard Benson [My Chemical Romance, All-American Rejects] produced it and Chris Lord-Alge [Green Day, AFI] mixed it. This is what Chester sounds like on his own. I'm really proud of him for taking the reins on his album and going from concept to completion all the way through, guiding it on his own. It definitely sounds different from a Linkin Park record.
Can't wait to hear some material from Dead by Sunrise!
Also, the awesome Ana (LPHQ) has put up a new Phoenix Farrell fansite. Beautiful layout and a lot of yummy pics here (no doubt, she's the queen of HQs ^___^). She would be the newest affiliate of ours. Come and support her (I'm loving this site!)
