Kevin & Bean's Breakfast with Linkin Park: Kiss him!
Tuesday, September 14, 2010

A few day ago, we have heard love_lp's review about this show, and today, we finally have a chance to listen to the band's fantastic performance and their Q&A at the Kevin & Bean show. The most interesting part (to Bennoda fans) is where the 'kiss' chanting happened.

As soon as they finished “What I’ve Done,” Linkin Park went right into one of the songs off their new album A Thousand Suns, called “Waiting For The End.” You could tell as the band was performing this song, they were looking to the crowd for some sort of approval, which they received plenty of from the die-hard LP fans in attendance.

Once the song ended, Kevin & Bean came back up on stage and started asking the band a few questions about the new album. Mike talked about what it was like working with producer Rick Ruben and how important it was to them to change their sound and song structure on this album. Chester and Mike started receiving some encouraging shouts from the crowd to kiss, but left those fans a little disappointed when they just laughed it off.

Read the whole Live Blog from the show HERE ON KROQ.

You can listen to this part on KROQ radio official site or download it HERE (.MP3 file, 9.0 mb)

The moment started at around 06:50. Chester was talking about walking out of their comfort zone, getting away from writing standard-structured songs and letting the music do what it wants to do. Mike took on right after, and right when he was rambling about "That's a good point, Chester yadda yadda", a very surprising question hit him "Do you wanna kiss him?" and Mike got obviously flustered! He started laughing and could not finish his sentence when the crowd started cheering for them to kiss. Do we hear correctly when he was very nearly going to say "maybe"? He was stuttering (and almost giggling) "I... may... he really... put... that... together... in a way... like... when we finish... the record." Freudian slip, Michael! You really wanted to kiss him, didn't you?

When Mike could not finish what he's going to say, Chester said it was a horrible joke and he got some visual in his mind. After being demanded for some 'man on man' action, they only laughed it off and continued.

That was so close! I'm sensing something big gonna happen after ATS!

Enjoy some pictures from the show:

quick updates round 2
Saturday, September 4, 2010

- If you've pre-ordered A Thousand Suns on LinkinPark.com, you probably received a little gift in your inbox last Thursday: Wretches And Kings. But don't worry, it's not too late to pre-order and automatically get the song! (Or you can be a pirate -arr arrr- and search for a download link somewhere)
We'd like to know what you think of the song, so drop by our MB to discuss!

- If you're interested in hearing a 30 second snippet from Waiting For the End, head over here.
(I am personally fighting the urge to listen to it. Must not give in to temptation.)

- A new LPTV has been uploaded on Linkin Park's Youtube channel. No, it doesn't feature our beloved Bennoda, but Mike and Brad are being adorkable (and we fully support their bromance. Wheee!)

The Catalyst World Premiere
Monday, August 2, 2010

"The Catalyst" is finally here! Personally, I can safely say that I am in love. The song is epic, uptempo, lots of momentums - like Chester said - it must be a fun song to record. Thank you Linkin Park for creating such a beautiful song. This song is worth my waiting, cannot wait to get the whole album in my hands.

You can now listen to "The Catalyst" and the awesome remix by NoBraiN on Linkin Park's official MySpace

This album seems to be opening a potential era for Bennoda. The interview with Chester on BBC1 was full of Shinoda-fangirlism. Chester talked about how great the song is to him, with the heavy electronic influence, beautiful chant and again, very Linkin Park-esque - the universal-feelings-related lyrics. He described how Mike's vocal got really strong and on the song, you can hear that he might not sound like himself on some parts, and that's Mike. They blended their vocals, with the fade in and out effect, going back and forth between Mike and Chester.

While discussing the challenge of creating something unique under the pressure of their previous successful albums, Chester said he had to take his hats off for Mike Shinoda since Mike's the driving force (of the band) and creatively music wise. Chester claimed that Mike the most talented person he had ever met, and probably the most challenging songwriter in music (industry) right now.

That's very nice of you showering love on your musical partner, Chester. We appreciate this.

Mike introduced DBS at Chiba show. Warner vs. Youtube
Thursday, October 1, 2009

Chiba City, Japan, Chiba Marine Stadium, Summer Sonic Festival, Asian Tour, 08.08.2009: Here you have another chance to hear Mike Shinoda speaking Japanese, and this time he was helping his boy Chester out. The Dead By Sunrise set cut in between the Linkin Park set, and before Chester and crew started their first song Crawl Back In, the charismatic Michael Kenji Shinoda decided to use his Japanese to help DBS charm the Japanese audience. Mike also introduced Dead By Sunrise at their next show in Osaka. Good job, Michael.

Download the Crawl Back In performance at Chiba City in .mp3 HERE (.mp3, 8.91 mb)

Thanks Mikey for sending in the links and BlackChester/lplive for uploading this.

(Can anyone who understands Japanese tell us what Mike said?)

This is late but I just HAVE TO post it. Warner music is coming back to youtube! That means we can enjoy some free tubetime without being bugged by the whole Warner thingy again. Read the article HERE. It's time!

Edit:

Thanks Sakura and Tamako so much for writing in about the Chiba show. This is what Mike said in Japanese: "Kyo ha totteoki no supplies ga arimasu. Chester no side project, DBS!"

Translation (since two girls have two slightly different version of this, I will just post both :D)

Today, we have a great surprise for you. Chester's side project...DEAD BY SUNRISE!! Make a noise, guys!

or

There are special supplies today. Chester's side project, DBS!!!

Tamako also reported that Mike read those words from a crib sheet (haha, like always) and he also said "I'm glad to return to Japan" in Japanese. Sakura commented that Mike's Japanese seemed to be better.

Thanks a lot, girls. Hearing Mike speaking Japanese is just awesome!

Mike and Chester interview with MTV 25 June 09
Saturday, June 27, 2009

Mike and Chester had an interview with MTV about New Divide, Dead By Sunrise and their upcoming semi-conceptual album.

What they have to say about Chester's solo project:

And that "different" music starts with Bennington's Sunrise, a long-in-the-works project that the singer says will finally see the light of day in September. And in keeping with what Shinoda was saying, Bennington is warning Linkin Park fans to prepare to be shocked by what they'll hear. Oh, and to fire up their black lights too.

"There's a stylistic thing that's different. With Linkin Park, we have a signature sound — you know it when you hear us. [Dead by Sunrise] does not have that feel. It has a completely different feel. Trying to describe that difference is like trying to describe the difference between Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, you know?" he said. "They're both rock, but they're different styles. I'm confident in saying this next record is going to be the most challenging ... and complex and intriguing music that has come out of the Linkin Park camp. It's really dark. It's like post-apocalyptic 'Blade Runner' meets LSD."

"I have to say, I'm really proud of Chester — he has his own style. ... You know how they say you can turn on Pink Floyd and 'The Wizard of Oz' and they go together?" Shinoda added. "You'll want to put this record on with 'Blade Runner' and 'Tron.' "

"Or 'Blade Runner' and 'Tron' and 'A Clockwork Orange,' all at the same time," Bennington laughed.

Yet another time Mike has to voice out how much he's proud of his boy. Yes, we know Mike. We know ;)
