Mike's Ustream and LPU chats highlights
Monday, August 2, 2010

Mike just did a small LP community chat tour in the linkinpark.com's, the LPU and Ustream chatrooms. He left the LP.com chatroom pretty quick so there's nothing much to cover. Some highlights on other chats.

The LPU chat:

mshinoda says to (16:18):
Chester said the NICES things on his interview today. The Zane Lowe one was out of control-nice.
mshinoda says to (16:18):
The REAL version is a bit longer than what most radio stations played (5:45 ish?)

mshinoda says to (16:20):
Why are people talking about my hair?
mshinoda says to (16:20):
I didn’t cut it.

mshinoda says to (16:21):
ATS = 15 tracks ranging from like 20 seconds to about 6 minutes.
mshinoda says to (16:22):
The album is 99.9999% done. If we had to put it out today, it would sound finished. We’re trying some extra credit

mshinoda says to (16:23):
There are a lot of sounds on A THOUSAND SUNS. Most are layered like The Catalyst, but many of them have different energy.
mshinoda says to (16:24):
As for Catalyst, we thought it was a good introduction to the nucleus of the record.
mshinoda says to (16:24):
I want to see #TheCatalyst and #LinkinPark trending on Twitter

mshinoda says to (16:25):
Catalyst: That effect on the voices is a layer of a flanger, a modulation effect, and some other stuff. We had fun with effects on this record…lots of “ear candy”
mshinoda says to (16:26):
…on many instruments.

Lots of great things and his comment on Chester's reaction on BBC1 is hilarious. Out-of-control-nice, that is definitely our Chester ;)

Thanks MikeShinodaClan.com for the chat transcripts. Heading to their site to read the full transcript here.

The Ustream chat:

  • Chester is doing a very different kind of screaming that is very exciting. Mike referred to it as "weird" and "losing his mind kind of screaming."
  • Mike and Chester do back and forth vocals on almost every song.
  • Mike and Joe both contributed to the artwork. Mike praised Joe's work.
  • The music video for The Catalyst is not yet finished.
  • Both new and old songs will be played on tour.

It's quite amazing that we can listen to a lot of Mike/Chester duet with this album, also with the comeback of Mike and Joe's work - the band is assur you that this album is worth all the fans' waiting. You can watch the video recorded from the livechat HERE. Thanks LPLive for the highlights.

Premiering "New Divide" pics.
Wednesday, October 21, 2009

Kat Corbett has some pics of herself goofing around with Mike and Chester during their "New Divide" world premiering time.

Such dorks, ha.

Thanks Shela for posting this pic on the MB (taken from JoeHahn.org)

I don't remember exactly where this was. A press conference in Taiwan, right? Anyone has information on this pic?

Also, Mike posted this on his web blog but I bet you all have read it (nice update on Linkin Park btw). I'm being a snail, I know, that's what you got from aging :(

...And finally, Dead By Sunrise is out, and doing well on the charts. But more importantly, they're playing in LA soon, which means I'll get to go see the show. For those that missed it, here' DBS on Letterman:

Actually DBS played the Roxy this 19th, but no update from Mike yet, so we have to wait (the fatass must be aging like me, how sad :( I feel you, Mike man. )

Ultimate Guitar interview with Chester.
Monday, October 5, 2009

Ultimate Guitar has an interview with Chester where he talked about Dead By Sunrise, upcoming Linkin Park album, his tight friendship with his DBS bandmates and his point of view on writing lyrics from personal experiences.

Some high-lights where Mike was mentioned:

Linkin Park’s next record isn’t slated for release until 2010, but can you give us some idea of what we’ll be hearing? I read a quote from Mike Shinoda stating that the album will be “genre-busting.”

Mike, with that comment, every interview I’ve done they’ve asked me specifically about that quote! Thanks, Mike! From my perspective, I agree with him. The longer Linkin Park is around, the more difficult it is to find a place that we fit in best. Are we a pop band? Are we an alternative rock group? Are we a modern rock act? Are we a metal group? Or are we something else? Nobody knows what the hell is going on with us anymore, and I think that’s something that will propel us into being a better band in the future. I think it sets us apart.

LMAO, we guess Mike made a wrong move?

Mike’s quote was certainly an intriguing one that piqued our curiosity.

That quote is so not Mike’s personality. He’s a really pretty humble guy, and he doesn’t like to toot his own horn. For him to come out and say – “ Yeah, it’s genre-busting” – it’s kind of like, “Well, all right!

Chester also revealed about the difficulty he encountered when he wrote DBS's lyrics based on his personal experiences.

You cover plenty of personal topics in Dead By Sunrise’s lyrics, including your divorce and alcohol addition. How difficult was it to talk about those subjects, and was there one song that might have been particularly difficult to write?

I think going through it was difficult, but I’m pretty good at writing about stuff. Once I came out with being abused as a child, a lot of those doors opened for me. Now I can write about anything I want. Nobody knew about it until that day. My parents were going, “What?” It was like, “Okay, if I can write about that, I can pretty much write about anything.” I would say that I wasn’t writing songs about my particular problems while I was going through them during this record. I was writing songs about falling in love, and I was kind of skating around the subject a little bit.

After I went through all of that, that’s when I started writing very clear and very forward songs about what I went through. “Crawl Back In” talks about relapsing and how hard that is. “Condemned” is about that love affair with feeling like shit. It was very strange for me because these ideas just started coming. I don’t know if I could have done it if I had was in the middle of it. I try not to change things that much in my songs. If it comes to me, then it comes to me. If it doesn’t, then I’ll wait a couple of days. After that, I’ll just let it go. It’s not worth it.

This reminds me of an old Kerrang article where Mike and Chester talked about how they wrote their first album, how they discussed Chester's past and Mike said it was a strange way to get to know someone. I have more respect for Chester for coming through his painful past and get what he deserves today. Head straight to the Mushroom Army MB to have a deeper discussion on this if you are interested. Thanks Elisa for the tip!

On another note, I finally listened to Out Of Ashes and have to say that this album exceeded my expectation. Good job, Chester! Enjoy your solo project and come back fully with Linkin Park and Mike soon!

Today, Phoenix, Chester, and I wrote a song so awesome it vaporized Chester's arm.

Unfortunately, you'll never hear it. we don't want to risk any fans getting vaporized.

Michael recently blogged a picture of Chester and himself at the Shanghai show. Our boys looks dazzling.

LINKIN PARK IN SHANGHAI 2009

A good pic from the show in Shanghai last night. This was the same venue that hosted this year's Olympic events. It was an amazing show, and a fantastic experience in China all-around. A big thanks to our Chinese fans and friends who helped make these shows a reality!
